Third Year for the Charity Challenge two hour endurance race in Daytona Dmax High-Performance Karts followed by a Champagne Reception in the impressive Mercedes-Benz World building
With a full grid of 35 karts and reserve teams already entered, this year’s ‘Henry Surtees Brooklands Team Challenge’ charity kart event is well on its way to becoming one of the ‘don’t miss’ highlights of a very special year – one which celebrates not only the 80th birthday of HSF founder John Surtees OBE, but also the 50th anniversary of his F1 World Championship title.
The fund raising spectacle, now in its third successful year at Mercedes-Benz World, Surrey, continues to go from strength to strength and has garnered fantastic support from a host of star names from the worlds of motorsport, business and entertainment again this year.
Among those who have pledged their support and will be taking part in the event include legendary actor Sir Patrick Stewart OBE, BBC One’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional Brendan Cole and star of chart-topping band Boyzone, Shane Lynch.
Also competing from the world of motorsport will be Sam Bird, Alexander Sims, Lucas di Grassi, Marc Hynes, Darren Turner, Tom Ingram, Oliver Rowland, Jake Dennis, Ben Barnicoat and Rick Parfitt Jnr to name but a few to date.
Teams who have entered the 2014 challenge include Mercedes AMG F1, EFG, Toshiba, Land Securities, Blick Rothenberg, Carlin Motorsport, Ginetta, Dunlop BTCC, Motorsport Vision, Quantel Bifold Racing, Goodwood, Vauxhall, Kartforce, Racing Steps Foundation, Motorsport Magazine, TW Steel, Maris Interiors, Metropolitan Police, the Worshipful Company of Carmen, Phoenix Consulting, KSS Air Ambulance and previous event winners, Titan Motorsport.
During the racing programme interval John Surtees OBE will be reunited with his 1964 F1 World Championship winning Ferrari 158, to lead an exciting on-track display of iconic Team Surtees’ cars driven by Max Chilton, the latest and youngest British racing driver in F1, driving for Marussia; Sam Bird and Alexander Sims.
Following the 2-hour endurance kart race there will be a Champagne and Canapé reception hosted by Steve Rider and Henry Hope-Frost, when G.H Mumm Champagne will be poured by generous arrangement with the House and Bernie Ecclestone.
The prize giving ceremony of the prestigious ‘H’ trophies to the 2014 HSF Team Karting Challenge champions will take place during the reception. In addition to staged interviews with some of the attending drivers and personalities, an auction of some very special items donated to the Foundation for this event will be carried out by Malcolm Barber of Bonhams. • Red Bull Racing rear wing end plate signed by Christian Horner, Adrian Newey, Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo – donated by Red Bull Racing.• Framed photograph depicting Lewis Hamilton after his first Formula 1 win in Canada – donated by Ron Dennis.• Factory tour of the Mercedes AMG F1 factory – donated by Mercedes AMG F1.• Afternoon tea for 4 people at The Savoy and a private viewing of the Crown Jewels with the Queen’s personal jeweller, Mr Harry Collins – donated by Mr Harry Collins.• Original signed Sebastian Vettel 2012 race suit – donated by Sebastian Vettel.• Scalfaro John Surtees watch edition number 23/300. Designed incorporating historic parts from his MV Agusta and Ferrari 158 which have been integrated into the watch case. John raced under number 23 when he dominated British race circuits on motorcycles – donated by John Surtees.• Kurt Geiger – one year’s supply of ladies or men’s shoes. Winner chooses a pair of shoes from website every month - donated by Kurt Geiger.

HSF do amazing work in assisting people with accidental injuries and helping youngsters to fulfil their potential. The Foundation is particularly close to my heart because John is a hero of mine and Henry was a peer and a friend. I understand that there are plenty of surprises in store for the event this year and I hope that many people join us for what is sure to be a fun day.”

Having been Henry’s team mate in Formula Renault, I got to know the Surtees family and began to understand how determined yet genuinely caring John and Henry were. Everybody is extremely friendly and the aim of the day is to have a lot of fun racing whilst raising money for a very good cause. I especially enjoy seeing some of the old Surtees racing cars which is a real treat as it is not often that you can get so up close to those fantastic machines.”

• Henry Surtees Foundation - www.henrysurteesfoundation.com, Registered Charity Number 1137388 Henry Surtees was killed in a freak accident, through no fault of his own, at Brands Hatch on 19 July 2009. He was just 18, and one of the best young drivers of his era.To honour Henry’s memory, the Surtees family created HSF to help others: support accident care, with particular emphasis on head injuries; assist people with brain or physical injuries caused by accident to return to community living through the provision of equipment and facilities and provide young people with the opportunity to be involved in education and training programmes. Worthwhile causes supported by the Henry Surtees Foundation include the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance Trust.
• Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance Trust - Blood Transfusion: A number of clinical trials have demonstrated that blood is the most effective resuscitation fluid for minimising mortality from traumatic injury and the earlier it is given the better the chances of patient survival. The Trust’s objective was therefore to be able to transfuse those patients that needed blood at the scene of the incident in the pre-hospital environment thereby saving time and lives. As the Trust did not work from a hospital base, we needed to establish protocols with the National Blood Transfusion Service which has allowed for a system to be established that has allowed for blood products to be moved from the hospital to the pre-hospital environment in a fashion that maximises the availability of this life-saving intervention and, at the same time, ensured unused blood is returned into the national system to prevent wastage of this precious resource. This service is now fully operational due to the fund raising efforts of the Henry Surtees Foundation.
• Brooklands Museum – www.brooklandsmuseum.com: BROOKLANDS - the world’s first purpose-built motor racing circuit, constructed at Weybridge, Surrey in 1907 - was more than a great sporting arena. Brooklands was the birthplace of British motorsport and aviation, home of Concorde and the site of many engineering and technological achievements throughout eight decades of the 20th century.The Museum displays a wide range of Brooklands-related motoring and aviation exhibits ranging from giant racing cars, motorcycles and bicycles to an unparalleled collection of Hawker and Vickers/ BAC-built aircraft, including the Second World War Wellington Bomber, Viking, Varsity, Viscount, Vanguard, VC10, BAC One-Eleven and the only Concorde with public access in South East England.
