It's all about de Vries at Spa Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS

Yet another success for Nyck de Vries, the sixth so far. The Dutch claims Spa Race 2 as well. In Blegium, in the fourth round of the Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS season, the young Koiranen GP took it all: pole position and two wins ahead of the other youngster Matevos Isaakyan (JD Motorsport). The Russian managed twice second and he is still second overall in the series reserved to the two liter Renault powered cars, behind the undisputed de Vries.

In Race 1 podium was completed by the Monaco driver Charles Leclerc, today the honors were all for the other driver racing with Fortec Motorsports: the English Ben Barnicoat. Behind him Leclerc and the wild card Raoul Owens, who joined the event with Mark Burdett Motorsport team. Not collecting point as a wild card, fifth overall is thus the Italian Dario Capitanio (BVM Racing) who thus scored some precious points, followed under the chequered flag by George Russell (Koiranen GP), Alessio Rovera (Cram Motorsport), Alex Bosak (Prema) and Akash Nandy (Tech 1 Racing), to further witness the International soul of the category which lined up 32 cars.

The Report. No problems at all for de Vries at the green light differently from Isaakyan who also suffered from lack of top speed on the main straight for the whole race. The Russian still managed though to defend his second place at the start but had to hand it to Barnicoat at the end of the Kemmel straight. The duel among the two lasted for the whole race with Isaakyan capable to retake second. Behind them, in few tenths Morris, Leclerc and Gachet. A minor mistake at lap 5 cost Simon Gachet three places. His bad luck was not yet over as a contact with Luke Chudleigh forced both to retire. In P6 edged thus Owens. With just 4 minutes to go It was Sebastien Morris time to slip back in the group with Capitanio happy to climb up in sixth. No hassle up front for de Vries who cruised to victory with Isaakyan and Barnicoat behind.

“All went as predicted, - commented de Vries – even if I took advantage of the duel between Isaakyan and Barnicoat and I could manage my lead with no hassle”. The next appointment is in four weeks’ time in Monza (5-6 July), for the fifth round of the season.

*AMENDMENT TO RESULTS:

LECLERC ON PODIUM, BARNICOAT PENALISED IS FOURTH

Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS Race 2 Spa venue results are amended. After having carefully analyzed the last lap, the Sporting Marshals have pointed out an incorrect behavior by Ben Barnicoat, who crossed the finish line third.

The British of Fortec Motorsports, was found guilty of having crossed the white line of the track margin with all the four wheels of his car. For this reason he has been given a 2” penalty as for the Regulations. For such a reason third overall is now his team mate Charles Leclerc, while Barnicoat is classified fourth.
