Challenging Formula Ford return for Andrew Richardson

Andrew Richardson endured a challenging return to action in the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain but was able to secure a hat-trick of solid finishes at Oulton Park.Andrew’s outing in the fourth meeting of the campaign marked his first appearance in the series since the 2013 season finale at Brands Hatch, with his season to date having been spent engineering the Ford EcoBoost-powered Mygale being campaigned by the Lincolnshire-based Richardson Racing team.Having produced a solid performance during Friday testing, Andrew impressed in qualifying to post the fourth quickest time and secure a second row start for race one.Despite losing ground at the start, he fought back well as the race wore on to cross the line in fifth spot in difficult damp conditions. A minor issue with the car in race two would then leave him down on power, meaning he had to settle for seventh place in a race ended early by a number of incidents elsewhere. The final race of the weekend, held in better conditions on Sunday, saw Andrew battle hard throughout to take ninth spot, with the team now turning its focus towards the fifth meeting of the year at Croft later this month.“Last year when we came to Oulton Park, we were battling with an engine issue on the car so it was interesting to see how we compared this time around,” he said. “Even though the conditions weren’t great, we could see where we have improved and the car was particularly quick when we ran on old tyres.“We didn’t quite have the pace when we put new rubber on and there were a few cooling issues when the conditions warmed up that we were able to identify and have resolved.“It was good for me to get back behind the wheel as its been a while since my last race and I enjoyed the opportunity to get out on track. Hopefully I’ll be out again before the end of the year, but I think its been beneficial for me to spend time in the car to see how far we’ve come, and to identify what more we need to do.”
