Stunning GT Open win for Montermini, Schiro and Villorba Corse Ferrari 458

Race-2 win after an incredible comeback to take 2014 Gt Open lead

A superb victory in race-2, the first of the season, allows the Scuderia Villorba Corse to jump to the top of the International GT Open standings with Andrea Montermini and Niccolò Schirò in the Ferrari 458.

In Jerez de la Frontera the Villorba crew were the stars of the Spanish weekend and, in particular, of Sunday's race, making a stunning comeback with lots of overtaking despite the highest handicap time (30 seconds) to be paid during the driver change because of the great results the Italian team clinched in previous races.

Starting from fifth on the grid, Schirò put up a show in the first half of the race with two beautiful passes on the outside. At half way of the 60-minute race the young and talented driver from Milan came into the pits for the mandatory driver change. Montermini got back on track in eighth position but the F1 driver and reigning GT Open champion immediately began to push hard and with a storming drive he overtook all his rivals on Audi, Porsche, Corvette, Nissan and other GT cars from Maranello bringing the Villorba 458 to a stunning win to be celebrated on the podium together with the whole team.

“This victory is the result of an extraordinary team work - says Raimondo Amadio, Team Principal -. We keep on improving our performances and on closing the gap from the major contenders. Our two drivers were perfect this weekend, as well as the whole team. The lead in the championship, of course, gives us positive energy. We needed it
