Blancpain Resumes With Evening Challenge At Paul Ricard‏ for Ahmad Al Harthy

Paul Ricard in southern France hosts the third round of the 2014 Blancpain Endurance Series this Saturday, 28th June, where Omani racing driver Ahmad Al Harthy and British team-mates Michael Caine and Stephen Jelley will be striving to post their best result of the season so far.Just a few days removed from the latest two rounds of the Oman Racing Team’s dovetailed Avon Tyres British GT Championship campaign at Snetterton in the UK, the squad reunites with Jelley for the eagerly awaited visit to the popular Le Castellet track near Marseille.Round three of the Blancpain Endurance Series will provide a different challenge than those of the first two events of the season, the three- hour encounter taking place during the evening and so offering a glimpse of what to expect when the blue riband Total 24 Hours of Spa takes place in July.Last time out, at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit, the Oman Air, Oman Ministry of Tourism, Oman Ministry of Sports Affairs, Nawras, National Bank of Oman and Al Hashar Group/Aston Martin Oman supported squad earned its first Blancpain points with a top 10 finish – ninth in the Pro Cup class.Importantly emerging from the previous round as the quickest of the Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 squads, the Oman Racing Team carries justifiable confidence into this weekend’s event and realistic hopes of adding to its championship points tally.“We’re aiming for our best result of the Blancpain season, we scored points in our last race at Silverstone and want to do better at Paul Ricard”, commented Ahmad, “Blancpain was always a development programme for us this year, and still is, but good results in British GT help to get us more and more used to the Aston Martin and more competent in the car in both championships.“It will be our first dusk race, we’ll have to see how dark it’s going to get, but I’m really looking forward to the challenge. It will help us to learn more ahead of the 24 Hour race at Spa, we need to be focused as always and hopefully we can enjoy a good race weekend.”Featuring many of the world’s premier GT3 racing drivers, with wide-ranging experience from top level single-seater racing to the Le Mans 24 Hours, the Blancpain Endurance Series once again fields a magnificent entry this weekend at Paul Ricard with over 40 cars expected to line-up on the grid.“Racing in Blancpain is always special, we’re proud to be there and looking forward to welcoming Stephen [Jelley] back into the team”, added Ahmad, “The championship is the highest level of its kind, the best GT3 drivers out there are a part of Blancpain, and it’s fantastic for the Oman Racing Team to be fighting for points at such a high level and as part of such a big entry.”Following free practice and pre-qualifying this coming Friday, 27th June, the final qualifying session will take place at 11.20 (local time) on Saturday, 28th June, with the three-hour evening race getting underway at 19.15 (local time).Provisional 2014 Blancpain Endurance Series ‘Pro Cup’ Driver Standings (after Rd2):=12th Ahmad Al Harthy / Stephen Jelley / Michael Caine, 2ptsProvisional 2014 Blancpain Endurance Series ‘Pro Cup’ Team Standings (after Rd2):8th Oman Racing Team, 8pts
