Rain doesn't stop play at Castle Combe's Classic and Retro Day

Mother Nature brought thunder, lightning and even hail to Castle Combe on Saturday (28th June) but even that didn't stop owners enjoying track time at this year's Classic & Retro Action Day.

After braving the elements during the morning, members of the 65 clubs in attendance enjoyed a 'classic cruise' around the circuit as the sun joined the festivities for an afternoon of track action.

With the afternoon divided into various sessions dependant on the age of the marque, the circuit saw everything from early Fords to modern classic Mercedes in fast paced track sessions and slower parade laps.

Jo Sparrow, Marketing and Events Manager at Castle Combe, said: "No one could have predicted the horrendous weather during the morning or the Great British spirit of the owners who decided that they'd brought their cars out so they were going to enjoy them! The minute the rain stopped, everyone took to the circuit with great enthusiasm and helped to make the rest of the event most enjoyable."

The 1.85 mile long circuit, situated in Chippenham, Wiltshire, also saw vintage buses take to the tarmac while hot air balloons took to the skies. There was also a trader village, offering classic motoring parts and spares, services and memorabilia.

Dates for the 2015 event will be announced on www.castlecombecircuit.co.uk     -  built by racecar   -    later in the year.
