Surgery on both arms for Crutchlow

Cal Crutchlow underwent successful surgery on both arms yesterday in Barcelona at the Universitario Quiron Dexeus Hospital.Crutchlow stayed at the hospital overnight on and will heading back to England today having had surgery to relieve arm pump (compartment syndrome) on both forearms. Specialist Dr. Xavier Mir undertook the operation.

The English rider has previously suffered with the muscular problem which is common in MotoGP™ riders, and has been operated on once on his left forearm and three times on the right. On the right arm incisions were made to release pressure on the muscle, whilst ‘mesenchymal cells’ have been implanted to prevent future formation of liquid.

Dr. Mir confirmed that the necessity for surgery on the right arm had already been acknowledged with the rider after scans in May, but it was decided to wait until the ‘summer break’ in the MotoGP season to go ahead with the surgery. It was also decided on Tuesday to operate on the left forearm.

It is expected that Crutchlow will be ready for the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix early in August, though whether he will arrive at round 10 completely recovered from the double surgery remains to be seen.
