Josh Webster says he will be battling to retain his lead in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB when the season resumes at his home track of Snetterton (2/3 August) following a five-week summer break.Carrera Cup GB Scholarship driver Webster (Redline Racing) has a 10-point lead over Michael Meadows (Samsung UHD TV Racing) in the overall points after nine of the season’s 19 races. Never before has a Scholarship driver topped the points in his Scholarship year and Stowmarket-based 20-year-old is determined to maintain that momentum at his home track.“The last race weekend at Croft was fantastic for me,” said Webster after moving ahead in the title race for the first time. “I’m definitely further forward at this point than I thought I might be. I was hoping I could get into the lead of the championship, but I knew it would be difficult. Now, I really feel like I can press on with the extra pace I’ve found and the added confidence.”Webster reckons that two very high-profile events in recent weeks were very important for him. “I learnt a lot in the Carrera Cup GB race at Le Mans and then by doing the Porsche Supercup round at Silverstone by racing against the top guys in the world. The learning curve is going up and up.”Webster knows that reigning champion Meadows will be tough to beat at Snetterton. “It’s going to be a big fight with Michael and no doubt he’s going to come back stronger. Snetterton is a fantastic circuit: it’s my home track and I feel very confident about going there.
