Great victory for Lundberg in Sweden
It was an amazing adventure which was successful at Kristianstad at the last round of the CIK-FIA European KZ2 Championship. In its first year of existence, the French team CPB Sport managed to take their lead driver Douglas Lundberg to the top step of a European podium and won the title of vice-champion of Europe against the experienced factory teams. It is an accolade for the Alpha Karting Black Tiger chassis and IAME Parilla Screamer engine prepared by Falcon RS / Tec-Sav Engineering.
When creating team CPB Sport earlier this year, Paul Bizalion probably didn't dare dream of such a reward so quickly. "We started a full international programme from February with the aim of doing well at the European Championship. We worked hard as a team and mastered the knowledge of the Alpha chassis. The European KZ2 standard is incredibly high. Douglas Lundberg's presence has allowed us to move quickly in the right direction. But we remain reasonable in our ambitions for a first season against very experienced teams."
The fast sequence of events demonstrates the performance of the Alpha / Parilla and Lundberg was quickly placed among the best in the category. Perfectly on the pace during the opening round of the European Championship at Genk, Lundberg encountered some problems at Wackersdorf. CPB Sport solved these before the last event at Kristianstad to provide top class equipment for the Swedish driver who was ultra motivated at home.
This meant Lundberg was able to cause a real celebration at an acknowledged difficult track. Already taking 3rd in timed practice and the fastest time in his group, he then won three qualifying heats in a row before dropping the pace in the past because of well worn tyres. 2nd in the intermediate classification, Douglas won the prefinal with ease while managing his tyre wear. The battle was tight in the final with formidable rivals constantly in his wheeltracks, but the Swede used all the strengths of his Black Tiger to keep a small lead and to cross the finish line as winner. Douglas completed each lap of the finals in the lead and remains the holder of the absolute best time of the meeting in KZ2, two aspects that further increase the value of his victory. This achievement also gave him the title of Vice-European Champion and Lundberg was radiant with joy, something quite rare for him.
"If someone had told me earlier this year that we would take such a victory along with 2nd place at the European Championship, I would not have believed it!" concluded Paul Bizalion. "It shows the quality of work from the team as well as the Alpha chassis. Choosing Falcon RS as a technical partner with Parilla engines greatly helped us to achieve this result. Douglas was able to lead the team with a positive and dynamic performance in Sweden, which will be remembered. After a short break, we will start preparation for the World event at Sarno with even greater motivation."
