WTCC: Tiago Monteiro to start 5th and 6th in Argentina

Tiago Monteiro had an excellent qualifying session at the 8th round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship, WTCC. On the Rio Hondo Termas circuit in Argentina, the Portuguese driver reached the final stage of qualifying, Q3, which is for the top five drivers. As a result of his superb performance Tiago will start from 5th and 6th places on the starting grid, boding well for both races.

Tiago Monteiro took all the risks he needed to in Q3 and was pleased with his performance, despite the difficulties of the long straight, which penalizes Honda. "The car was very good, but its behavior was different from that of free practice," said Tiago, "The temperatures were higher, which may explain this difference. Q1 and Q2 went as expected and in Q3 I pushed hard to move up the order. Unfortunately I made a mistake in the 9th turn otherwise I would have been fourth behind the three Citroens."

As for the races, Tiago knows that climbing onto the podium will be difficult but he emphasizes the need to score points for the championship. "I will do my best to score maximum points, but the most important thing will be to consolidate fourth in the championship," Tiago insists, "I think the two races will be very interesting and there will be struggles at all levels . "

Races from the Termas de Rio Hondo will be broadcasted by Eurosport on Sunday, August 3, from 18h.
