Four-Time NASCAR Champion Jeff Gordon Coming to Lime Rock

Gordon, Rick Hendrick at Lime Rock Thursday, September 18 to raise money for AARP “Drive to End Hunger”

Jeff Gordon, four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and driver of the No. 24 Drive to End Hunger Chevrolet SS, will be at Lime Rock Park Thursday, September 18 to help raise money for the track’s official charity, AARP Foundation, to support Drive to End Hunger, the multi-year initiative to fight the risk of hunger for Americans age 50+.

Fans will have the opportunity to donate to the charity by signing-up online for a number of exciting activities involving Gordon, who has been spearheading the Drive to End Hunger for AARP and AARP Foundation since 2011.

Nine million Americans over the age of 50 go to bed every night not knowing where their next meal is coming from.

Drive to End Hunger is the national effort by AARP and AARP Foundation to help the millions of older Americans who face hunger. AARP Foundation, through Drive to End Hunger, is not only raising awareness of the problem but also the funds to fight it. The AARP Foundation engages organizational and individual sponsors of Drive to End Hunger across the country, as well as funding innovative programs with promising results that can be applied elsewhere to prevent hunger.

Lime Rock’s 2014 association with Drive to End Hunger is an effort to raise donations specifically for seniors in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York.

Lime Rock Park’s goal this year is to raise $96,000 for Drive to End Hunger – $24,000 for each of Gordon’s four NASCAR titles. The track’s fans, via Memorial Day Weekend’s Sunday Royals Car Show, online donations and the July 5 meal-packing project, have already donated nearly $40,000.

For the September 18 Jeff Gordon Day at Lime Rock Park, there are two ways to participate and contribute:

* For a $24 donation, people can join a hosted interview with Jeff Gordon, Rick Hendrick (Hendrick Motorsports team owner) and Alan Gustafson, crew chief. This will be held in one of Lime Rock's hospitality tents near the Infield Midway

* For $2,400, up to three people per “Hot Laps” session will be driven around the track by Jeff Gordon himself, in a prototype Chevrolet Camaro. Each “Ride Along with Jeff” concludes with a photo opportunity in pit lane

Each of these two elements of the September 18 fundraising event has limited availability; those interested in joining this unique, fun, once-in-a-lifetime day to raise awareness and funds about the problem of hunger among people 50+ should not delay.

People can go to www.dteh.org/limerock to sign-up for the Hosted Interview and the Ride Along with Jeff Hot Laps.

Skip Barber said, “Jeff and the AARP have been fantastic to work with. This is a cause I truly believe in – September 18 is going to be just terrific. We’re really looking forward to having Jeff here to help get the word out.”
