Impressive Ginetta Junior progress from Flashman in Scotland‏

Young autistic racer Flashman Finneran made more impressive progress on his maiden appearance at Knockhill during the latest rounds of the Ginetta Junior Championship.Newmarket racer Flashman made the long journey to Scotland having agreed a deal to run as part of the Tollbar Racing line-up – giving him the opportunity to run with a team-mate for the first time since making the move up from karting earlier in the year.Having qualified 17th on the grid at one of the most challenging circuits on the calendar, Flashman went into the opening race seeking to try and move forwards up the grid, although tough conditions following to a series of rain showers made things even more difficult for the rookie racer. After keeping his car on track to pick up a 16th place finish, Flashman was eager to try and better his result in the second race of the weekend, which was held in improved weather conditions on Sunday morning.Although he didn’t get away well at the uphill start, he soon closed onto the pack ahead and displayed his most impressive pace of the weekend as he posted a fastest lap comparable with some of the drivers inside the top ten.The end result was another 16th place finish, with the youngster having benefitted from working alongside his new team as he continues with his racing education.“The first race was quite tough because part of the circuit was dry and part of it was wet,” he said. “There wasn’t a lot of grip and the car felt a bit soft at the rear.“The team changed some things at the rear end and the car felt a lot better in race two. The fact that the track was dry also helped me and I felt a lot more confident.“I didn’t get the best start but I felt I could push harder and I was able to catch the cars ahead when they were fighting together. I set my best lap of the weekend and wasn’t far away from some of the guys in the top six.“This has been a tough circuit but working with the team has been great and I’ve been able to learn a lot from having two team-mates for the weekend.”Next up for Flashman is a trip to the Rockingham circuit near Corby in a fortnight.
