Stunning Historic F1 cars set for Masters Singapore GP support race

A superb and varied entry has been selected by the event organisers for the Masters Singapore Historic Formula One race to be held on September 19-21.The 24-car entry has been assembled from cars from the Masters-managed F1 series in the USA and Europe, the cars, all in period colours and powered by the great sound of the Cosworth DFV engine, will represent a snapshot of how Formula One looked in the 1970s and early ‘80s. Racing under lights around the streets of Singapore, it promises to be a true spectacle.Experienced Spanish racer Joaquin Folch heads the entry in the Bernie Ecclestone-owned Brabham BT49C, the ex-Nelson Piquet car a likely candidate for honours. Against Folch comes Richard Eyre’s Williams FW08, the ex-Keke Rosberg car from the Finn’s championship-winning season of 1982 against another ex-Rosberg 1982 chassis in the hands of Tommy Dreelan and the earlier Wolf-Williams FW05 in the hands of Max Smith-Hilliard.Lotus fans are well catered for with reigning FIA Masters Historic Formula one Champion Greg Thornton on the grid in his ex-Elio de Angelis Lotus 91/5 against American Chris Locke in his ex-Mario Andretti Lotus 79, the car that the American ace used to take the 1978 Drivers’ title. Hethel-built cars of the early 70s are on the grid too, as Katsu Kubota’s ex-Ronnie Peterson/Reine Weissell Lotus 72 squares up against Andrew Beaumont’s later 76.McLarens are numerically strong with Danny Baker racing his Chesterfield-liveried M23, his ex-Brett Lunger chassis from 1976, while Frank Lyons’ ex-James Hunt M26 takes on Sean Allen’s 1980 ex-Alain Prost M30. Ollie Hancock drives the Copersucar-liveried Fittipaldi F5A against James Hagan’s ex-Michele Alboreto Tyrrell 011, while three Heskeths line up with Michael Lyons (308E) set to be the pick of them against Rick Carlino’s 308C and the 308B in the hands of Frenchman Frederic Fatien that James Hunt took to victory in the 1975 Dutch Grand prix.March, Penske, Parnelli Shadow and BRM are also set to take part in the history-making support race to this year’s Singapore Grand Prix.
