Rockingham BTCC challenge for Jordan and Pirtek Racing

The Rockingham Motor Speedway is the next focus for Andrew Jordan and Pirtek Racing when rounds 22, 23 and 24 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship are held at the Corby track (6/7 September). The visit to the Northamptonshire track comes as the season heads into the closing stages, with just nine races left to run through three weekends in September and October. However, the results from the last two race weekends have left Andrew as an outside contender for the BTCC as the BMW of Colin Turkington continues to set the pace. Andrew says that the BMWs now have a clear advantage and they will be very hard to beat over the balance of the 2014 season.Even if retaining his overall title is now a long shot, Andrew is still determined to put the Pirtek Honda Civic right to the fore of the action and challenge for more race wins. “The BMWs will be very strong at Rockingham,” he warns. “They are now very quick through the fast corners as well as the stop-start sections. But we had two wins there last year so our car should be very good. I’ll just drive like I did at Knockhill and see where we can get to!”Being knocked out of the opening race at Knockhill really put Andrew on the back foot, but he raced from 30th on the grid for race two to finish fifth overall in race three at a track where overtaking is notoriously difficult. It was a great performance, but the results could have been so much better without the knock in the first race.Andrew now lies fifth in the overall standings as Turkington, Gordon Shedden and Jason Plato set the running in the title race. He also lies fourth in the Independents’ Trophy and Pirtek Racing is third in the Independent Teams’ Trophy. After qualifying on Saturday 6 September at 15.40, the first of three BTCC races will be at 11.35 on Sunday, with race two at 13.50 and race three at 16.40. All three races will be broadcast live on ITV4. Qualifying will be broadcast live at www.itv.com and live results from the weekend will be available at www.tsl-timing.com
