Homecoming for Oman Racing Team in British GT

The Oman Racing Team will be in action on home ground for round nine of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship this coming weekend (30/31 August) when the series visits the mighty Grand Prix circuit at Brands Hatch. With two wins already this season, Oman Racing Team Aston Martin Vantage GT3 drivers Ahmad Al Harthy and Michael Caine currently lie joint fourth in the championship standings and will go to the Kent track ready to challenge for another win at the Motorbase-run squad’s local circuit which is just a stone’s throw from the team’s base at Wrotham. Meanwhile, the team’s other Aston Martin will be handled by Rory Butcher and Jeff Smith and they will be pushing hard for another podium result after scoring a superb third overall last time out at Spa-Francorchamps six weeks ago. After the extended summer break, the British GT Championship now heads to the track that many drivers rate as their favourite for a two-hour race. After qualifying at 16.15 on Saturday (30 August), the two-hour race will start at 13.10 on Sunday. The action will be covered in an edited highlights programme on Channel 4.Oman Racing Team Principal David Bartrum said:“Racing at our home track is always very important and it’s the first time we’re going there with the Aston Martin. The GP circuit at Brands is always a great circuit to do, but it’s annoying that you can’t test there.“We’re going to Brands on the back of double podiums at Spa and this is our chance to chase down Jonny Adam and Andrew Howard for P2 in the points. We’ve got two two-hour races left and we’re still chasing the team championship as well. There is a job to do for the teams’ title as well as building for the runner-up spot in the overall championship as I think Marco Attard and Alexander Sims are too far away to be caught.”Oman Racing Team driver Michael Caine said:“Brands GP is one of the best circuits in the UK and it's a pleasure to race in Motorbase’s back garden! The season has had its normal up and downs but Ahmad has shown great pace in the car so far this season. The Aston’s a great car to race and Motorbase has done an amazing job in running the car for the first year, and we have shown as a team that we can be competitive.”Oman Racing Team driver Ahmad Al Harthy said: “We’re all really looking forward to being back in action at the weekend, with two races to go there’s still a lot to play for in the championship and we’re determined to be back on the podium. It’s been a strong first season with Aston Martin, the car is fantastic and the team has done an amazing job all year.“I don’t have all that much experience of the GP circuit at Brands but it is a great track and a real challenge too. We’d love to try and put the Oman Racing Team back on the top step of the podium. We’re expecting a lot of support with it being Motorbase’s home round, hopefully we can deliver a strong result for the guys to celebrate.”Oman Racing Team driver Rory Butcher said:“It’s been too long a gap since Spa! We just wanted to keep the momentum going. Jeff and I are working really well together and I think the Aston Martin will be very well suited to the track. I’ve raced on it before and won there last year in the Carrera Cup. It’s one of my favourite circuits - it’s just so quick and one of those old British racing circuit styles that I love.“We’ve only got two more races to go this season and I want podiums in the last two rounds and for the team to pick up the teams’ championship.”
