Monza GP2 Sprint race penalties announced

Pierre Gasly and Jon Lancaster have both received penalties for their involvement in incidents during this morning’s sprint race in Monza.

Newcomer Gasly picked up a 5 grid position penalty for the next event, the feature race in Sochi, for causing a collision with Artem Markelov on the back straight during the opening lap of the race, which prompted a safety car period to clear the resultant debris.

20 seconds has been added to Lancaster’s time after he was judged to have exceeded the track limits to gain an advantage during a battle with Arthur Pic: as a result the Englishman drops from P6 to P16, with Felipe Nasr promoted to 6th ahead of Pic and Adrian Quaife-Hobbs.
