Flashman takes the positives from Rockingham Ginetta Junior weekend

Young autistic racing driver Flashman Finneran was able to take the positives from the latest rounds of the Ginetta Junior Championship at Rockingham, with his results over the course of the weekend failing to fully show his continued improvement on track.Flashman went into his second weekend working with the Tollbar Racing team keen to try and push for his best results of the season to date, with the Newmarket racer having made the switch into the British Touring Car Championship-support series from karting earlier in the year.Free practice, held in tricky conditions thanks to early morning fog at the circuit on Saturday saw Flashman post the 15th quickest time and he would then qualify 17th on the grid for the opening race of the weekend. An unfortunate stall at the start meant Flashman dropped off the rear of the field when the lights went out for race one, with the 14-year-old running alone at the rear of the field as he took the flag in 17th spot.A better start to the second race saw Flashman running with the pack ahead and he had climbed up to 14th place before being caught out under braking for the Deene hairpin on the fifth lap.The resultant spin dropped him to the back of the field and led to another 17th place finish, although Flashman was still pleased with his performance come the end of the day.“I think it’s been a good weekend and I’m happy with the pace I showed in the second race,” he said. “The first race was hard because I stalled at the start and it meant I dropped off the back of the field but in race two, I got away well and was keeping up with the cars ahead.“I got caught out when I was braking for turn two and coming down the gears and had a spin, which was a shame because I felt comfortable until then and I think I could have had a good result.“Although it was quite a hard circuit to race on, it helped that I’d been able to test here before and I was able to learn more this weekend from working with the team again. I’m looking forward to going to Silverstone next which is another new circuit and I’m hoping I can go well there.”
