Podium and leadership for Montermini and Schiro at Spa in GT Open

Thanks to their third place in race-2 Villorba Corse Ferrari 458 tops the overall standings again (by one point) before moving on to an exciting home round at Monza on September 27-28

Thanks to Andrea Montermini and Niccolò Schirò, Scuderia Villorba Corse is back at the top of the International GT Open by one point. At Spa, sixth round of the season, Italian pair made a good comeback in race-2 at the wheel of the Ferrari 458 ending in third place overall a crucial weekend to the championship and celebrating on the podium their new leadership.

After their race-1 was heavily influenced by the safety car on Saturday, in the early stage of Sunday's race-2 Schirò gained a couple of positions from eighth on the grid and that allowed him to stay with the major contenders. At lap 10 the young driver from Milan came into the pits for the mandatory driver change leaving the Villorba Ferrari to his teammate. Paid the additional 10-second handicap, Montermini, the reigning GT Open champion, got back on track in tenth and recovered up to the overall podium, the necessary result to be on top of the standings again just before the home round at Monza on September 27-28.

“This is a very important podium - says Raimondo Amadio, Team Principal -; we have been reliable and consistent for the whole weekend. We aimed to bring home as much points as possible and, thanks to an efficient work by everyone, we did it. Now we lead the championship by one point: GT Open will start over again in the last two round in Italy and Spain.”
