Texas-Sized Celebration To Welcome TUDOR Championship

For First Visit To Austin’s Circuit Of The Americas

Circuit of The Americas is set to throw a Texas-sized celebration to welcome the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) for next weekend’s Lone Star Le Mans. A weekend full of racing, music and entertainment are planned for the entire family at the world-class 3.4-mile circuit located in the capital of Texas, highlighted by Saturday’s race at 11:35 a.m. CT.

TUDOR CHAMPIONSHIP ON FOX NETWORK IN SUNDAY SHOW

The TUDOR Championship Lone Star Le Mans will be aired on FOX network television on Sunday, Sept. 21. The start time of the two-hour FOX telecast will vary depending on NFL coverage in each market. In addition to next-day coverage, the race will be televised live in the U.S. on FOX Sports 2 beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET.

TITLES ON THE LINE IN ALL FOUR TUDOR CHAMPIONSHIP CLASSES

It’s a critical race in the inaugural TUDOR Championship, with close championship battles in all four classes and only two races remaining in the season.

In the top Prototype class, the No. 5 Corvette DP teammates Christian Fittipaldi and Joao Barbosa enter the race with a 16-point lead for Action Express Racing, but four teams are ready to pounce. In GT Le Mans (GTLM), Corvette Racing’s Antonio Garcia holds a slim six-point lead over a pack of drivers representing four different manufacturers. GT Daytona (GTD) is even closer, with Ferrari’s Townsend Bell and Bill Sweedler, Porsche’s Leh Keen and Cooper MacNeil, and BMW’s Dane Cameron in an unprecedented five-way tie atop the point standings.

In Prototype Challenge (PC), Texan Colin Braun and Jon Bennett can clinch the crown with a second-place finish, although Starworks Motorsport’s Renger van der Zande looks to keep his chances alive.

CONTINENTAL TIRE CHALLENGE, PORSCHE GT3 CUP USA BOLSTER WEEKEND

The weekend at Circuit of The Americas is jam packed with on-track activity for the TUDOR Championship, Continental Tire Challenge and Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA. In addition to the TUDOR Championship, the IMSA-sanctioned Continental Tire Challenge and Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA also will contest the penultimate rounds of their 2014 seasons.

Friday will have qualifying for both the TUDOR Championship and WEC following the first 45-minute race of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA doubleheader and the two-and-a-half hour Continental Tire Challenge race. The day concludes with the second race for the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA.

Saturday’s schedule includes the main Lone Star Le Mans events, as well as autograph sessions with drivers from both the TUDOR Championship.

The six-hour FIA WEC race will run into darkness on Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. ET, the first event for the series since the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.

BLUE OYSTER CULT INCLUDED IN FULL DAY-INTO-NIGHT ENTERTAINMENT FESTIVAL

In addition to the on-track activities, the Lone Star Le Mans weekend features a number of off-track festivities, including a concert headlined by classic rockers Blue Oyster Cult. A number of other concerts are planned, as well as fireworks, Texas culinary specialties, go-kart and simulator experiences, mechanical bull riding and even armadillo racing.
