With the turbulent racing weekend of the ATS Formula 3 Cup in the support programme of the DTM at Lausitzring just finished, the young drivers contesting the German Formula 3 are already looking ahead to the Sachsenring round. The upcoming racing weekend will be just as exciting. Markus Pommer from Lotus could already clinch the 2014 ATS Formula 3 Cup championship title at the penultimate racing weekend. His rivals will surely battle hard and drive with the knife between the teeth again. It remains to be seen whether second-placed Nabil Jeffri from Team Motopark will be a real threat to the leader. Eleven drivers will contest the races at the 3.645-km Sachsenring in the support programme of the ADAC GT Masters. Brazilian Pipo Derani, who will be a new edition contesting for ADM Motorsport, aims for a podium finish.
Markus Pommer is well on course to win the coveted crown. Contesting for Team Lotus, the driver from Neckarsulm is leading the ranking after seven racing weekends. He could seal the win of the ATS Formula 3 Cup championship title at Sachsenring this weekend. Still, the drivers behind him are not giving up, Malaysian Nabil Jeffri from Team Motopark above all. The third-placed driver, Dutchman Indy Dontje from Team Lotus, and Briton Sam MacLeod, who contests for Van Amersfoort Racing and is currently fourth, also still have a say in the battle for the championship title in the 2014 ATS Formula 3 Cup. However, if Pommer continues his string of victories, his competitors will have to put in everything in order to prevent him from clinching an early title.
Pipo Derani for ADM Motorsport teamLuís Felipe Derani, who finished the 2010 ATS Formula 3 Cup season tenth in the overall ranking, will be a new edition to the grid. The Brazilian contested the British and European Formula 3 afterwards and took the third place in last year's Macau Grand Prix of Formula 3. This weekend, he will contest the races for the Italian team ADM Motorsport. The contact developed through a planned collaboration for the Zandvoort Masters. Derani has been invited by Team Principal Renato Melchioretto to contest at Sachsenring. “I am excited that I can support Renato in developing the car. Based on my Formula 3 experience I understand well what a vehicle requires,” comments the 20-year old from Sao Paulo. “We plan to find the pace quickly in order to see where we stand. I hope that I will be able to also help the other drivers in the team.”
