Black & Decker swaps RPM for Joe Gibbs Racing

Joe Gibbs Racing has announced that Black & Decker tool brands Stanley and DeWalt will be primary sponsors of the Nascar Sprint Cup team's cars in 2015.

Stanley will be the primary sponsor of Carl Edwards' car at 12 races next year, while DeWalt will be Matt Kenseth's primary sponsor at six events. Stanley will be an associate sponsor throughout the season, while the team said other Black & Decker brands will 'continue to be a part of the Nascar programme'.

In total, the deal could be worth up to US$9 million to the team.

"They have a great history in our sport," said team owner Joe Gibbs of the brands. "We've had a partnership with Mac Tools that dates back to our first days here at JGD. It's an honour that they chose to come on board and support both Carl and Matt."

Black & Decker is switching its sponsorship from the Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM) team but RPM responded to the news by insisting it still intends to field two cars in next year's Sprint Cup. "We have a vision that our ownership group and sponsors support and believe in," said RPM chief executive and president Brian Moffitt.
