Speedway GP heads Down Under

The Speedway Grand Prix series just keeps getting bigger and bigger and it’s set to expand even more in 2015: speedway’s going Down Under!

After 13 long years away, the SGP series will return to Australia next season as part of a five-year deal struck with the awe-inspiring Etihad Stadium in Melbourne.

BSI, the series organisers, have worked tirelessly to take the best speedway racers in the world back to their Australian fans and now the dream is a reality, with the Melbourne round penciled in to host the final round of the 2015 series.

That means that the world champion will be crowned in the Southern Hemisphere for the first time and it gives the thousands of passionate Aussie race fans the chance to see their heroes up close.

BSI Speedway managing director Paul Bellamy was delighted to confirm the return of GP racing to one of speedway’s sleeping giants; “Australia is one of the true superpowers of world speedway and it has been a long-term goal of ours to take the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series back Down Under.

“The SGP series has visited some fabulous venues across the globe and Etihad Stadium is up there with the very, very best of them.“Melbourne lives and breathes motor sport and sport in general. We hope Melburnians, Victorians and fans from all over Australia, New Zealand and the rest of the world embrace the event next year.”
