Silverstone Auctions NEC preview

Some tasty lots on offer at the Silverstone Auctions sale at the NEC Classic Motorshow - here are some highlights which took our fancy....

1971 Ford Escort Twin cam - stunning colour with upgraded twin cam mean it must be a hoot to drive - est £30-35k

1959 Fiat Abarth 750 Zagato - Achingly cute - fully restored - est £60-75k

1991 BMW E30 M3 - its done 115k miles so next owner can just thrash it opposed to making it a garage queen - est £20-25k

1969 DeTomaso Mangusta - Exotic looks with rarity and bullet proof 289 Ford and ZF running gear - est £180-200k

1977 Ferrari 308 GTB Vetroresina - Despite strong price rises over the last couple of years - still a really appealing pretty F-car which is fun to drive on today's roads - est £100-120k

1966 Porsche 904-6 Carrera GTS Recreation - Ok it's not a real one - but it's not over £1m either...a stunning as close to the real thing as you are going to get - with tantalising suggestion that with an engine change and some other small mods it might even get htp papers to enable historic event participation! - est £75-90k

1954 Aston Martin DB2/4 with Period Competition History - Lovely old thing - probably eligible for a few events - est £130-160k

1981 Talbot Lotus Sunbeam - just had a £20,000 restoration...Oversteer on demand Sir? I used to drive my mum's Lotus Sunbeam on "private roads" when I was 15 - and watched Toivonen's RAC victory in 1980 - I am hopelessly smitten - they work best with decent LSD, Skip Brown Exhaust and Minilites - 1 of 2 in the auction the other is a delivery mileage LHD car - destined for garage queen status - this one probably makes more sense to go and drive? - est £14-16k

1955 Jaguar XK140 FHC - restored for both road and rally and prepared at vast expense - bet it goes well and is obviously eligible for loads of events...est - £49-53k

1995 Porsche 911 (993) Carrera RS - yes aircooled RS stuff has jumped enormously in the last year - but this is a very desirable car - est £140-170k

1992 Porsche 911 (964) Carrera RS Touring - OK I am ridculously biased as I have the lightweight version of this car - even the same colour - but even though it is a touring and possibly less desirable than a basic/lightweight model which is 70kg lighter - still think this estimate is somewhat low! - est £80-100k

1974 BMW 2002 Turbo - I have had a modded 2002 - probably a fair bit quicker than a stock Turbo but...a real turbo in Polaris Silver is just very cool - I will own one one day - est £28-32k
