The award winners for the 2014 West Wales Rally Spares R.A.C. Rally Championship were celebrated in style on Saturday night (25 October) during the end of season awards’ dinner at the Casa Hotel in Chesterfield.Over 130 crews, sponsors, guests and families gathered for a night of celebration after a fabulous season of rallying. Over 200 crew members contested the 2014 season and people travelled from all over the UK and Ireland to collect their awards.Guest speaker Yuk Hodgson set the tone for the evening with his wonderful take on rallying through the decades before championship manager Colin Heppenstall announced nearly 50 award winners.The biggest awards and biggest cheers were saved for overall champions Nick Elliott and Dave Price, while others to collect major awards were category winners Ray Cunningham, David Stokes/Guy Weaver, Richard Hill/Steffan Evans and Simon Crook/ Alister Crook.The winners of two special awards were announced on the night, with Matthew Robinson taking the Martin Jones Transmission Hard Charger Award. Meanwhile, in memory of TV producer David Winstanley, the award for the ‘TV moment of the season’ went to Ford Escort Mk2 driver Mike Reed for his colourful in-car commentary while upside down in a ditch in Kershope.Elliott paid tribute to the work that goes into running the championship. “We’ve had a brilliant season and we’d like to thank Colin and his team for running a fabulous championship. The competition has been superb and that’s only going to get stronger next year,” said the 2014 champion.“We want to thank every crew that supported the championship this season and all our sponsors and partners for making it all possible,” said Heppenstall. “We hope to see all of you back on the stages next season,” he added before giving an exclusive preview of exciting plans for 2015 from the Roger Albert Clark Rally Motor Club.
