Shuttleworth takes prize entry on Roger Albert Clark Rally

Yorkshireman Robin Shuttleworth will contest this year’s Roger Albert Clark Rally (28-30 November) after winning half of the entry fee with the best performance by a 1600cc car in this year’s West Wales Rally Spares R.A.C. Rally Championship.Shuttleworth and co-driver Ronnie Roughead won a new award presented by Jordan Road Surfacing. This year the award is worth nearly £1000 as half of the entry fee for the November event, while for 2015 it is planned to double the prize and offer a full entry fee for next year’s Roger Albert Clark Rally.Regular competitor Barry Jordan, who is now rallying a 1600cc Hillman Avenger, is keen to encourage more 1600cc cars out onto the stages. Cars like the Avenger and 1600cc Ford Escort Mk1s and Mk2s offer some of the most affordable ways of getting into historic rallying. “I think it’s brilliant and it is fantastic to win this award,” said Shuttleworth, who campaigns a 1600cc Ford Escort Mk1 in class C2. “I’d like to say a very big thank you to Barry for encouraging more 1600cc cars out: I’m really excited about next year as I think we’ll have more 1600s competing.”While Shuttleworth is based in Yorkshire, Roughead is from Gateshead and will be firmly on home ground when the Roger Albert Clark Rally starts in Sunderland. For more details about the Roger Albert Clark Rally, please visit www.rogeralbertclarkrally.org
