Rentco Racing’s Kris ‘Killa” Walton will come into the final Round of the 2014 Australian V8 Ute Racing Series – fuelled by Hogs Breath Café with a boost of confidence, after he secured enough points to walk away with the New Zealand title following their penultimate Round at Hampton Downs on the weekend.
Walton won Race 1 and Race 3, effectively wrapping up the New Zealand Championship. He is sitting 163 points ahead of Brett Rudd and Mike Lightfoot (in equal second) and with less than 140 points up for grabs, the title is in the bag.
“I think I clinched it after Qualifying. Any championship win is a good feeling, it’s my first year in the New Zealand series and to grab the win is great, the bonus would be to take Australian title as well,” said Walton.
In the ARMOR ALL Driver’s Championship, Walton is a comfortable 61 points ahead of David Sieders in second, going into the final round of the Australian V8 Ute Racing Series at the Sydney 500 in a few weeks’ time. There are still 140 points available, and if Walton wins, he will join Chris Pither as the only other driver to have won both the Australian and New Zealand V8 Ute title in the same year (2010.)
Pither has now gone on to race in the V8 Supercar Development Series and V8 Supercar Endurance Races, and wishes Walton the best of luck.
“Obviously he’s been involved in the category for a little while now and his consistency must be paying off to win a national championship in two countries. It’s something I focused on to achieve that. I wish him the best of luck to make it happen,” said Pither.
Walton will hit the track for the final Round in a months’ time on the streets of the Sydney Olympic Park for the Sydney NRMA 500, 5 – 7 December.
