Former Renault UK Clio Cup racer Graham Field is targeting a return to the key Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship feeder series next season, having acquired the car campaigned by Finlay Crocker in the Eurocup Clio series this year.

Field, from Southwell in Nottinghamshire, has been on the racing sidelines throughout 2014 due to budget difficulties but after spending most evenings and weekends working to secure the funding to buy a car, the 55-year-old estate agent is now the proud owner of a fourth generation Clio.

“I really enjoyed my time in Clios and I was really disappointed not to be able to race last season”, said the married father of five, “However, I did keep up with all of the action by attending most of the race weekends and those I couldn’t get to I watched on ITV4.

“As well as that, Pauline [Hillon – championship co-ordinator] has been fantastic keeping me in the loop about the developments with the championship. There’s no substitute for being on the grid, and that’s why I want to be back next year.”

After several years in club racing, Field made the step-up into the Renault UK Clio Cup at the end of the 2012 season in the previous generation racing Clio where he contested four races. Returning for a full campaign in 2013 with 20Ten Racing, he secured a best result of 15th position overall at Croft.

In the Masters Cup, he achieved a best finish of second place during the opening race of 2013 and went on to add another five top three class results. Now, with one of the latest fourth generation turbo-powered cars in his ownership, Field will be spending the winter months striving to secure a full race budget.

“I need to familiarise myself with the new car, which I’m told is quite different to the Clios I raced in 2012 and 2013, so I need to get the budget together for some solid winter testing”, he said, “Then, the greater challenge is to find the finances we need to be on the grid next year – I’m determined to be back out there.

“The Clio Cup is a fantastic championship and it looks like we have an exciting season in prospect next year with a number of new drivers looking at the category, plus an increase in grid size. I want to be part of that excitement and part of that grid, we’ll just have to see how things progress.”
