Roger Albert Clark Rally countdown, Julian Reynolds

Crews and teams and now making final preparations for this year’s Roger Albert Clark Rally (28-30 November) and to mark the final week before the rally, we’ve asked a number of leading contenders for their thoughts about the coming event. We’re publishing one set of answers every day this week and we conclude with Julian Reynolds who starts at number 7 in the stunning Fiat 131 from Rallysport Developments. Experienced co-driver Patrick Walsh will be alongside as they bid to get more miles on the still-new Fiat. Reynolds has only tackled the event once before, in 2012, and that ended in a very early retirement. How tough will it be in Kielder? “Kielder is very tough, with not usually any margin for error. The narrow roads are built up generally with ditches either side. If you do slide off then there are not so many areas lined with spectators to help.”

Who should be setting the pace? “I think the pacesetters will be Nick Elliott, Matthew Robinson and Matt Edwards.”

Who will be the surprise of 2014? “I think Bernard Munster in the Porsche could be the surprise.”

When will the rally be won and lost? “I don't know: a clean run with no mistakes or punctures would mean a good result but that won't be enough to beat the top few.”
