Some good results from Bonhams - The cars which were in the Maranello Rosso collection sold well although the sublime ex-works Porsche 908 could be seen as a bargain at £2.185m
Out of 30 lots - 25 sold + 5 Non-sold lots - lot 13 must have been withdrawn? So an 83% sale rate does not look bad at all - and in fairness some of the etimates seemed realistic.
Highlights for us:
Abarth Simca - well over estimate at £225k - but I have seen the car - it was fabulousAbarth 1000 SP - good price for a rarity with limited competion event potential - albeit with lovely historyPorsche 959 - ok colour scheme was a bit german night club owner - check the interior - but £505k surely is not expensive in todays market?Brough Superior SS100 - ok lovely history and an iconic must have bike for a collector but £315k is a huge sum for a vintage road bikeAston Martin DB4 4.7 built to DB4 GT spec was stunning - have seen the car - owner will not be disappointed with £673.5k - auction was the right place for the carAston Martin V600 Le Mans Coupe - How much?End of a handbuilt era - and real bruiser but £348,700 was good moneyTalbot AV05 - well known and quick car eligible for everything - really special - Sold for £1.38mPorsche 908 - Well it has everything and compared to some recent classic Porsche roadcar price jumps this historic racer looks cheap? Thing is if you own this - it is not a posing machine to trot down to the pub - you have to race or demonstrate it on track and the ability to do so - which will limit the market potential - but what a mouthwatering piece of history - albeit with front crash protection suitable for "Douglas Bader"...Hope it's gone to a worthy custodian (Half the price of a 2.7 RS RHD M471?? - the buyer nicked this)
