Javier Ibran crowned champion in the Spanish GT series

The season finale of the Spanish GT Championship rewarded Buggy Experience Racing Team´s efforts and one of its drivers, Javier Ibrán who took the GTL title with the Ginetta G55 shared by Álvaro Fontes and Mathijs Bakker in the 500 kilometers of Alcañiz.

The closing round of the season for Buggy Experiene Racing Team was rewarding for Buggy Experience Racing Team in its first season competing the new Ginetta G55 car, as the squad took the GTL honors.

This weekend could not be more exciting with an endurance event, the 500 kilometers of Alcañiz at Motorland Aragón, and a weather forecast playing a key role. On the occasion, the car entered by Buggy Experience Racing Team was shared by Ibrán and his two regular teammates this season,Álvaro Fontes and Mathijs Bakker.

After free practice sessions, Fontes drove the car in qualifying and the Spaniard stormed to GTL class pole position posting an unbeatable time of 2:14.990, out of reach for anyone else. Later, in the race, Bakker made the opening stint and despite the fact that the track was unknown for him, gapped his rivals with a brilliant driving in wet conditions. Bakker built up a solid lead in the GTL class and, in addition, the Buggy Experience Racing Team driver was even putting pressure on D1 cars. After two hours, they secured 2nd place in the Spanish GT classification and the title for Ibrán but, unfortunately, an electrical glitch brought them to a premature end in the 500 kilometers of Alcañiz.

“It was such a demanding and difficult weekend because heavy rain has been a constant. Finally we clinched the title thanks to the work of my team and my two outstanding teammates, Álvaro and Mathijs. Our car experienced some electrical issues and power issues plagued our vehicle from that moment. We were able to finish the CEGT race, but unfortunately not the endurance event. In any case our season has drawn a positive conclusion. It has left very good impression on me”, Ibrán remarks, pleased with his title.

On the other hand, Fontes stressed that “it is great to help Javier win the GTL title in the Spanish GT Championship. I personally am relieved that I was able to take my class pole position and sixth overall, but we were hit by electrical problems and it forced us to retire. It is disappointing because I would like to have finished on the podium of the 500kms race, but anyway I´m happy”.
