The Ferrari Formula One team has confirmed Mexican telecoms firm America Móvil as a new sponsor, less than a day after signing Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez as its new test and reserve driver.
The Carlos Slim-owned company, the parent of Telmex, Claro and Telcel, will join Gutierrez in moving from the Sauber team. Gutierrez was dropped by Sauber for the 2015 season after two years racing for the Swiss team.
A brief Ferrari statement on Tuesday said the logos of Telmex, Telcel and Claro will appear on the cars, which will be raced by four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel and 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen, in 2015.
It is unknown how much America Móvil has invested in its Ferrari deal but despite the team’s prestige it is likely to be a reduction on the significant multi-million dollar sum the company paid Sauber to field Gutierrez and compatriot Sergio Perez in recent years.
Mexico has been targeted in recent times as a market of major potential sales growth for Ferrari. The country will stage a Grand Prix for the first time since 1992 in November next year.
