Connor Jupp will contest the 2015 BRDC Formula 4 Championship with Mectech Motorsport, resuming a team-driver partnership from the 2014 Winter Championship.
Connor first appeared in BRDC F4 in the second half of 2014, finishing 11-straight races in the points, and progressing to become a top-ten challenger in the last two rounds of the season.
Brentwood-based Jupp later impressed with his performances in the Winter Championship, particularly on the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit, where he claimed his first F4 pole position and maiden podium in the opening race of the weekend. This was followed by another front-row qualifying performance on the second day of competition.
Prior to stepping up to single-seaters, the 17-year-old was impressive in karts, winning three championships in his debut season in 2008. Subsequently he stepped up to international level, achieving podium finishes in the 2011 TAG Junior Supernationals in Las Vegas and 2012 KF3 CIK-FIA European Championships in Spain.
This will be Mectech’s first full season in BRDC F4, following its debut in last year’s Winter Championship. The Essex-based team has run successful sports car campaigns for several years now, recent successes including three straight Radical titles, most recently the European Masters in 2014.
Jupp commented: “I’m really looking forward to the 2015 BRDC F4 Championship with Mectech. I worked really well with the team during the Winter Championship and I feel that the partnership showed great promise, particularly at Brands Hatch where I took my first pole position and stood on the podium for the first time. It’s a competitive championship but having worked together before, I’m sure we can learn a thing or two from each other and achieve some great results.”
Team boss Mike Smith commented: “I’m delighted to welcome Connor back to the team for 2015. He did a great job for us last year in the Winter Championship, particularly in tricky conditions at Brands Hatch.
“This is an exciting new chapter for Mectech as we move into the BRDC F4 Championship full time and I’m sure our experience with Radicals will stand us in good stead and we are looking forward to helping Connor continue the impressive progress he made with us in the Winter Championship.”
