Maxwell Leads Qualifying For BMW Performance 200 In Ford Mustang

Third Straight Daytona TOTAL Pole Award For Multimatic Motorsports

‘Super Sub’ Piscitell Earns ST Pole, Second Straight At Daytona for Murillo Racing

Multimatic Motorsports captured its third consecutive Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge TOTAL Pole Award at Daytona International Speedway in qualifying for Friday’s BMW Performance 200, with veteran Scott Maxwell running a lap of 1:56:520 (109.990 mph) in the No. 15 Ford Mustang Boss 302R.

The team switched drivers over the off season. Billy Johnson now joins Maxwell in the No. 15 Mustang, while Jade Buford – the Daytona pole winner in both 2013 and 2014 for Multimatic – moves to the team’s No. 158 Miller Racing Ford Boss 302R.

“More than anything, winning the pole gives us a great psychological advantage, because it gives the team, drivers and manufacturer a well-deserved start to the new year,” said Maxwell, winning his ninth career pole in the series. “The car was good, but there are a lot of guys pushing us. It’s great to be on the pole, but it’s a long race and I’d rather be on the top step of the podium tomorrow.”

Hugh Plumb – who now co-drives the No. 13 Rum Bum Racing Porsche 911 with his brother Matt – will start on the outside of the front row after running 1:56.779 (109.746 mph).

Qualifying on the second row in third position was Andrew Davis, running 1:56.941 (109.594 mph) in the No. 6 Stevenson Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro Z/28.R co-driven by Robin Liddell.

Substitute Piscitell Leads Murillo Racing To Second Straight Daytona ST Pole

Justin Piscitell gave Murillo Racing its second consecutive Street Tuner (ST) pole at Daytona, running a lap of 2:05.454 (102.157 mph) in the No. 56 Mosing Motorcars Porsche Cayman. Piscitell is standing in for 2014 ST pole winner Jeff Mosing, whose wife is due to give birth at any moment. Piscitell joins defending ST champion Eric Foss in the race.

“I have earned the name ‘Super Sub,’ because I’m more of a ‘fill-in’ driver for the team,” said Piscitell, winning his second TOTAL Pole Award and first since 2011 at Watkins Glen International. “I’m usually the third driver for the No. 65 (Murillo Racing) team, and I’m also registered as the third driver for the No. 56 car. Since I’ve been around the team for a long time and Jeff (Mosing) is at home for his wife having a baby, I’m fortunate enough to fill in his spot this weekend.”

Second was Jason Briedis, who ran 2:05.462 (102.150 mph) in the No. 84 BimmerWorld Racing OPTIMA Batteries BMW 328i co-driven by James Clay.

Jon Miller qualified third, running 2:06.482 (102.134 mph) in the No. 18 RS1 Porsche Cayman co-driven by Adam Isman.

The BMW Performance 200 takes the green flag Friday at 1:45 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on IMSA.com.
