This year’s champions of the Michelin Clio Cup Race Series and Road Series one-make saloon car categories will once again be rewarded with a prize test in a fourth generation Renault UK Clio Cup car organisers have confirmed today, Wednesday, 11th February.
Following on from last year’s highly successful prize test for Race and Road Series champions Mike Robinson and Anton Spires, their respective 2015 successors will also be rewarded with a run at the wheel of a turbo-powered Renault Clio as raced in the Renault UK Clio Cup.
Underpinning Renault UK’s commitment to motorsport, the prize outing for the eventual Clio Cup Series title winners will take place during the official pre-event practice for the final round of the Renault UK Clio Cup season at Brands Hatch in October.
“We’re delighted to be able to provide this prize again for our two champions”, said Michelin Clio Cup Series promoter Simon North, “It’s important for the Race Series and Road Series to offer such an opportunity as the vast majority of our competitors will be seeking to graduate into the Renault UK Clio Cup. It’s an ideal chance for our champions to impress on a bigger stage.”
As last year, multiple title-winning Renault UK Clio Cup squad and race-winning Michelin Clio Cup Race Series entrant Team Pyro will engineer and run the fourth generation car during the test which will take place on the full Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit.
“There really is a fantastic ladder in place now with Renault Clios, the Road Series and Race Series are ideal starting points for drivers with aspirations of touring cars”, said Pyro team principal Mark Hunt, “It’s great the prize Renault UK Clio Cup test is being offered again for the Clio Cup Series champions and we’re obviously very happy to be running the car on the test day.”
Following a successful inaugural season in 2013, the burgeoning Michelin Clio Cup Race Series and Road Series each became fully-fledged championships last year with a grid boasting a fantastic mix of seasoned campaigners and young rookies.
With the hugely popular 2.0-litre normally aspirated third generation Renault Clio proving a major draw for the headline Race Series, and track-readied versions of the Clio Renaultsport 197 roadcar offering a superb entry-level route into ‘tin-top’ competition in the Road Series, the championship is set for continued growth in 2015.
The season opening triple-header event at Rockingham International Super Sportscar Circuit will take place over the weekend 11th/12th April.
Along with headline sponsors Michelin and Protyre, the Clio Cup Series is additionally supported by Ferodo and Safety Devices with further support for the Road Series from Monster Sport Europe.
