Round 1: Weir Engineering Wyedean Forest Rally, 14 February
After a couple of seasons on the tarmac roads of Ireland, Hugh Hunter returned to claim maximum points on gravel in the Forest of Dean.
It was not all plain sailing as Hunter reported “a terrible morning” with a loss of brakes in Speech House and a spin in Chepstow park. It was a different matter in the afternoon as conditions improved, posting fastest time on Stage 7 moving him up the leaderboard.
Bob Ceen and Andy Bull suffered a puncture on the third of the morning tests but they returned to Chepstow racecourse in second. Championship regulars Paul Davy and Roger Allan reported issues on the morning’s tests but a good run through the afternoon stages lifted them to third.
