Armstrong leads Pirelli runners on Scottish rally opener

Pirelli enjoyed success on round one of the MSA Scottish Rally Championship, with 10 of the first 11 runners on the Inverness-based Snowman Rally all using the Italian tyres.

With the crews using Pirelli’s 205/65R15 KM6 tyre, title favourite and former event winner Jock Armstrong headed home a six-strong fleet of Mitsubishi Lancers to claim victory in his Subaru Impreza in a time of 43m59s, with Paula Swinscoe on the pace notes. In second place, just 16 seconds behind, was Bruce McCombie/Michael Coutts with fellow title favourites Mike Faulkner and Peter Foy in third.

Pirelli runners were also victorious in four other classes on the event. Carl and Rob Tuer (MG ZR S1600) won the class for 2WD cars up to 1650cc, Robert Harkness/Russell Fair (BMW 316I) the class for 2WD cars over 2051cc, Shaun Sinclair/Chris Hamill (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo XIII) the class for Group A 4WD, S2000 and R4 cars, and John Rintoul/Ross Hynd (Hyundai Accent WRC) the class for WRC and R5 cars.

The next round of the Scottish championship, for which Pirelli is a tyre partner, is the Border Counties Rally based in Jedburgh on March 21
