Having moved to the United States of America for his second season in the USF 2000, Nicolas Jamin made an excellent start during the first round of the "WinterFest" event: two poles positions, a front-row start and two podiums, at NOLA MOTORSPORTS PARK last weekend.
Racing this year for the reigning champions, CAPE MOTORSPORT with Wayne Taylor Racing, Nicolas Jamin showed promise from the start of the free practice sessions on the 2.75 mile Nola circuit.
Having set a superb second-fastest time in the first qualifying session, he then claimed pole position in the next two sessions.
The French driver was less lucky during the races. On the outside for the start of race 1, he logically lost the advantage at the first corner and dropped to third, a position he kept until the chequered flag. In the second race, having started from pole position, he had to concede the front spot to a rival whose car proved to be far faster in a straight line, and with whom he could not hope to compete. Finally, in the last race of the weekend, once again on pole position, Nicolas lost one place at the start and then had a collision while fighting for second, and was forced to retire.
This first meeting promises a competitive season ahead, with the potential of plenty of good results in the quest for the 2015 title. The next event will be next weekend, with the second round of the Winterfest event, at the Barber track. Three races are again on the timetable, before the USF 2000 season gets underway at Saint Petersburg on March 29th.
NICOLAS JAMIN :"This first event has really boosted my moral ! We worked well with the team from the start of the weekend. I felt good, and the balance of the car was good as well. From the free practice onwards everything went rather well in terms of our programme. The only disappointment was the big engine difference with one of my rivals, especially in the second race… even if he was excluded in race 3 after technical scrutineering, my position in race 2 was not changed. I am raring to go for the second round of the Winterfest at the Barber track, which is shorter but with more corners, and very fast."
