Success breeding success for MML Sports

Hot off the back of an outstanding start to the Kenyan national Rally Championship campaign with Team Kibos, MML Sports enjoyed further success with the potential for more on the Mid Wales Stages at the weekend. Jamie Anderson won the event outright, as he competed as a test for the Malcolm Wilson Stages rally, his first round of the 2015 BTRDA series.

Anderson is no stranger to rallying, having driven a Group N Mitsubishi Lancer Evo9 for several years. However, for 2015, he stepped up to the top class of the BTRDA in his Mitsubishi Lancer WRC05 World Rally Car, supported by MML Sports.

Anderson conducted two pre-season tests in the car, which is well documented as a car that is easy to learn to drive quickly. The first of these was at renowned test venue Sweet Lamb and he had another planned for last weekend, as a warm-up for his first event this coming weekend.

However, when he realised that the Mid Wales Stages rally would also take place at Sweet Lamb, he decided to enter the event as a live test, to put competition pressure on the crew, the car and the team.

The first of the four stages was a relatively conservative affair, with Anderson and co-driver Jon Scott setting the third-fastest time. However, they won the remaining three stages that made up the event, against a pair of Subaru Impreza World Rally Cars in the hands of more experienced drivers.

By the end of the event, they had built a winning margin of almost 50 seconds, to claim their maiden win on their debut in the car.

Commenting, MML Sports Managing Director, John Easton, said; "I didn't think for a moment that Jamie would win his first event. He was treating it as a test ahead of this weekend's Malcolm Wilson Rally, the first of his BTRDA campaign but he did a remarkable job.

"He seems to have learned the car very well and handled the step up from Group N to WRCar superbly. I think this weekend was very good preparation for the Malcolm Wilson and having seen him in action, I think that we might see some more excellent performances from him this year."
