Daniel Lloyd is set to join the highly competitive Avon Tyres British GT Championship grid with an ambitious campaign for the 2015 season.
Huddersfield-based Lloyd is set for his most impressive season to date having secured a full season seat with Kent-based squad Motorbase Performance. Daniel’s 2015 campaign sees him piloting the multiple title winning team’s Aston Martin Vantage V12 alongside Omani driver Ahmad Al Harthy for all seven of the British GT rounds. After a bit-part GT season in 2014, Lloyd is relishing the opportunity of a full campaign with a strong chance at the shot of a title and the MSA Team UK driver is confident that his new partnership with 2014 British GT runner up Al Harthy will see the duo challenging at the front of the pack.
“Last year was not the best year for us; we were in and out of different championships so to be back in our first full season in the British GT Championship is really exciting;” said Daniel.“I raced against Ahmad back in 2012 and we got on well, he’s a really nice guy. I knew how much he worked back then and I know he puts in a lot of hard work away from the track. Ahmad puts everything into his racing just like I do, so I’m sure that we’ll make really good team mates and we’ll be strong contenders for the championship. We’ll be going for the win.”With a comprehensive winter testing programme in place that sees the 23 year old heading to Monte Blanco and Oulton Park with the Aston Martin Racing squad, Daniel is looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the Vantage GT3 car following two outings in the Aston in 2014.
“Our testing programme is already underway. We’ve just come back from a really productive weekend’s testing in Spain and have another 4 test days planned in the next couple of weeks, which is more testing than I had all year in 2014. I’m really looking forward to getting more track time in the car over the next few weeks and being fully prepared for the opening round in April.Daniel added; “I got on well with the Vantage last season and really enjoyed it. Qualifying tenth at the Silverstone Blancpain round, I got up to fifth in my stint and by the end of the race I was really comfortable in the car. I think I’ll get to grips with the car quickly, I was on the pace at Silverstone so with a couple more test days under our belts we should be right up there at the sharp end.”“It’s great to finally be able to announce the first part of our plans for 2015 and even more exciting to confirm that the best is yet to come! We’re just in the process of tying up the last few details and hope to be able to announce the final part of our campaign in the next couple of weeks.“I’d like to thank all of my sponsors massively for staying on board last year and offering to support me again this season. We’ve been working tirelessly throughout the winter getting our sponsors in place and finalising the package. We have the majority sealed up but we’re still working hard on pulling the last few bits together.”Daniel concluded; “This is by far our biggest season to date. With a full season package in place with a really strong team with such a great pedigree that Motorbase has; we have a great shot at the title and this season should be really special. Hopefully our results will reflect the support our sponsors have shown and we can reward that support with some silverware.”Daniel will make his Motorbase debut at his local circuit, Oulton Park, over the Easter weekend (April 4-6) as the 2015 British GT Championship season gets underway with a double header of two, one hour races.
