In a sandstorm affected morning session and Canamasas completed only six laps on a dusty track but then, in the afternoon, the MP Motorsport driver managed to run more than thirty at the Bahrain International track.
Sergio Canamasas ended the second day of GP2 testing in Sakhir driving the MP Motorsport-entered Dallara GP2/11. A sandstorm at night affected the morning session, as it was delayed by one hour, and had a significant impact on testing program, due to an extremely dusty track. As a result Canamasas completed only six laps in the morning and set a time of 1:44.954. In the afternoon, Canamasas clocked in a best time of 1:40.958, after completing thirty-three laps –which was a considerable mileage-, and finished 8th on the charts.
“In the manner we have come to expect, today was a tough one, mainly because we could test only in the afternoon. Morning´s test session was affected by that sandstorm the night before, and it was impossible to work properly on track. It is just a pity we could not use that time to the maximum”, Canamasas underlined, explaining that “when track conditions improved, we have been able to focus on our planned tire testing. We have collected valuable information and now I have to see all of the feedback with my engineer. Our 8th place is a good result, but we also know there is room for improvement. But we want to find that extra few tenths to finish on top, which is always a difficult task”.
GP2 preseason testing comes to an end tomorrow with Day 3 at Bahrain.
