(SPEEDWAY 1 – THURSDAY REVIEW)SWINDON enjoyed their best night of the season so far with an impressive 55-37 win over King’s Lynn at the Abbey Stadium. The Robins turned the tables after losing out in Norfolk 24 hours earlier, and boss Alun Rossiter was delighted with their all-round display as he waits for the club’s injury crisis to ease.Stand-in captain Nick Morris dropped just one point from five rides (11+3) whilst guest Hans Andersen contributed 13. Niels-Kristian Iversen topped the Stars’ scorechart on 11.Rossiter said: “I don’t think you’ll get much better racing than that. It was a great win and I’m over the moon, because it’s been really tough – probably the hardest time I’ve had in my managerial career.“That was a good all-round team performance and I’m pretty happy. Special praise for Nick, and I’m pleased that we’ve all dug in deep and won really well.”In the Premier League, Peterborough and Somerset both opened their campaigns with impressive away wins. The Panthers were 49-32 victors at Redcar, collecting all four points in a meeting abandoned after the first running of Heat 14 due to a dislocated shoulder suffered by the Bears’ Hugh Skidmore.Peterborough guests Richard Lawson and Claus Vissing notched six race wins between them, with Lawson leading the scores on his old home track with ten, whilst reserve Simon Lambert picked up 9+1.Panthers boss Carl Johnson said: “We were fantastic from start until the early finish and the boys did exactly what we asked asked of them.“We chose two good guests tonight who performed for us. Richard has done well for us on many occasions while Claus has also been in top form and loves riding this track. The rest of the guys were also excellent and it was great to get a result like this for Ged (Rathbone) against his hometown club. He was over the moon.”Meanwhile Somerset ended Sheffield’s impressive run at the start of the season with a 47-43 away win at Owlerton. The scores were level after ten heats but the Rebels took control with successive 5-1s in the next two races, and Heats 13 and 14 were shared to ensure their victory.Leigh Lanham, Richie Worrall and Brady Kurtz all scored 9+1 in a solid Somerset display, whilst guest Craig Cook top-scored with 13 for the home side.Rebels boss Garry May said: “This was a terrific result, the guys rode superbly well to beat a Sheffield side which had not tasted defeat so far this year.“We were solid throughout the side, it being a great team effort, and we were fully deserving of our win, which will make the long drive home pass all the more quickly!”Sheffield manager Jack Lee said: “It was a tough night, we knew Somerset would come and give us a good run and unfortunately things just didn’t go our way.“Cookie came in and did a great job at No.1, and Jason (Garrity) scored about what we’d expect, but unfortunately we were carrying two riders really. Ash (Birks) and Josh (Bates) both had difficult nights, and unfortunately we couldn’t really afford that against a team like Somerset who were really up for it.”In the Southern section of the League Cup, Ipswich defeated leaders Rye House 55-38 to maintain their hopes of finishing top of the section.Danny King suffered a rare dropped point at home but still totalled 14, with Cameron Heeps adding 11 and Stefan Nielsen 10+3, whilst Edward Kennett scored 13+1 for the Rockets.Ipswich boss Phil Hilton said: “I was always comfortable that we would win but we took a while to really assert our authority on the meeting. Our reserves were key again with paid 21 points between them.“Stefan Nielsen has improved so much this year already; he is consistently scoring points in almost every race regardless of who he is up against.”Rye House promoter Len Silver said: “We were beaten by the better team on the night, but at the same time we rode well and we certainly weren’t disgraced.“With the exception of Edward, we were basically beaten out of the gate and the points we scored we had to achieve from the back.”(SPEEDWAY 2 – FRIDAY PREVIEW)COVENTRY boss Gary Havelock is guarding against complacency as his side bid to extend their lead at the top of the Elite League table. The Bees face Belle Vue at Brandon fresh from a 51-39 win in the reverse fixture in Manchester on Monday – but Havelock expects the Aces, who bring in ex-Coventry duo Grzegorz Zengota and Kyle Howarth as guests, to offer a stern challenge. He said: “I feel Belle Vue have been very smart with their choice of guests for this meeting, and if there’s one thing we must avoid on Friday it’s complacency.“After such a great performance on Monday we certainly don’t want to slip up at home. I do feel we can go anywhere in the league and put on a performance, but we’ve already lost one at home this year so we’ve got to be on the ball and try to make sure we don’t lose any more.”Aces co-promoter George Carswell said: “I've got a very good feeling about tonight. The guys are extremely keyed up for a win and in all honesty I think we have a very good chance of taking something from this match.“A lot of our riders have had plenty of experience of the Brandon circuit, like Scott (Nicholls) and Stefan (Nielsen), so I’m quietly confident that we can get some sort of a result out of there.”Meanwhile Lakeside go into their home clash with Wolverhampton again tracking Jason Doyle as a guest for the injured Andreas Jonsson, whilst Rory Schlein comes in for unavailable captain Richard Lawson and they await confirmation over reserve Steve Boxall’s fitness as they look to hit back from losing out at Monmore Green earlier this week.Hammers co-promoter Jon Cook said: “We need to bounce back with the win on Friday, but with both tracks being similar it's always a tough test against Wolverhampton.”Wolves are at full-strength, and boss Peter Adams said: “These next two meetings will be two searching examinations, no doubt. Lakeside is always a tough place to go, and Coventry are on good form and always go well around Monmore.“But we’ll be ready for them both, and we’ll be trying to come away with as many points as possible added to our tally.”In the Border section of the League Cup, a crucial Scottish derby takes place at Armadale with Edinburgh hosting Glasgow. The home side are three points behind the Tigers with a match in hand, and if they win by more than six points they will be sure of topping the section unless they lose heavily at Workington on Saturday. Should Glasgow gain at least an away point, they are set to qualify either as group winners or best runners-up.Monarchs star Justin Sedgmen is confident of bouncing back from a disappointing afternoon in last weekend’s reverse fixture when he failed to score. He said: “When I stripped down the engine after Friday I found there were shavings in it. So I couldn’t use that on Sunday. I used another engine and it was useless.“So now I’ve taken one engine back to Peter Johns to see what he can do with it, and the other back to Phil Crump. I should be OK for Friday.”Glasgow have booked Danny Phillips to guest for James Sarjeant, who has a commitment for his parent club Coventry in the Elite League, and boss Stewart Dickson is hopeful of ending a barren run without an away win against their rivals since August 2011.Dickson said: “I'm under no illusions - I know how difficult it's going to be. Yes, we've got six of our seven riders this time. But the target is to be competitive and give them a good match.“The minimum requirement is a point. We know how formidable they are, but if we can make some starts and put them under pressure, who knows? Let's wait and see. Records are there to be broken.”In the Northern section, Scunthorpe have called in Anders Mellgren to guest for David Howe – injured in an off-track accident – as they take on Redcar at the Eddie Wright Raceway.Scorpions promoter Rob Godfrey said: “It makes perfect sense using Anders as the guest for David. He knows the fastest route around the Eddie Wright Raceway, plus he lives locally. The fans never got to see much of Anders in a Scorpions’ racejacket last season, so this is another opportunity.“The Redcar team includes a number of riders who go very well around our track, including their guest Thomas Jorgensen. It will be strange seeing Thomas in anything but our colours, but I’m looking forward to seeing him battling against our top five.”In the Southern group, the potentially decisive fixture between Plymouth and Ipswich has been postponed, although Peterborough could mathematically move to the top with a sizeable away win at Somerset. The Panthers have again called up Claus Vissing to make a guest appearance, with Kenneth Hansen taking the No.1 position in place of the injured Olly Allen.Rebels boss Garry May said: “We will be looking to finish our group matches on a high with a home win.”(SPEEDWAY 3)EASTBOURNE have moved to sign Matt Bates as a replacement for the injured Danny Warwick.Bates comes in on the recommendation of Eagles rider Richard Andrews who rode with the former Devon skipper in 2014.Warwick is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious neck injury last Sunday.
