Extra funding ‘will prove critical’ to Thompson’s VW Racing Cup title bid.
Bobby Thompson’s 2015 racing season has received a major boost with the signing of Birmingham based haulage firm Hampson Haulage as his primary sponsor in his quest to win Britain’s best supported saloon car championship, the hotly contested Milltek Sport Volkswagen Racing Cup.
Bobby, known throughout the racing paddock as ‘Bobster’ will sport Hampson’s familiar blue logos all across his fully race prepared Team HARD VW Golf GTI R Cup car for the remainder of the 2015 season as the eighteen-year old ace finally adds a primary sponsor to his growing legion of loyal associate backers.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be joined by Hampson Haulage,” beamed Bobby, who recently became the youngest ARDS Race Instructor in the UK. “I’ve been extremely lucky so far this year to have gained the support of Go HAM Clothing, Stilo Racing Helmets, Racehub at Brands Hatch and DNA Insurance Services and they will all continue to be partners throughout the year but this deal with Hampson Haulage is really the icing on the cake.”
Just three races in to the 2015 Milltek Sport Volkswagen Racing Cup and with 13 races still to run at world renowned venues such as Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Donington Park and Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, Bobby has made an extremely promising start to his rookie season with a trio of top ten finishes at the challenging Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire.
“As a racing family we have always had to make every penny count and work really hard to try and get sponsorship,” added Bobby, who enjoyed a glittering karting career in the Lewis Hamilton and Bernie Ecclestone backed Formula Kart Stars Championship before his move into car racing. “We invited Paul Hampson to Oulton Park to show him the kind of benefits being involved with motorsport and specifically the VW Cup could bring and we are really glad that he not only enjoyed himself but decided to get involved.
“The funding that Hampson have provided will really allow us and Team HARD to push on with the development of the car and gives me more time in the seat, which any driver will tell you is the most important thing of all.”
Established in 1982 and based in Birmingham, Hampson Haulage now boast a fleet of more than 20 vehicles and have prospered as a family run operation that maintains a close-knit atmosphere despite their nationwide coverage. Hampson Director Paul Hampson, who runs the firm along with his father Clive, is excited to be shifting his sponsorship programme into top gear.
"Hampson Haulage is very pleased to be able to provide sponsorship to Bobby Thompson during his 2015 season racing in the Volkswagen Racing Cup,” said Paul Hampson. “We feel that Bobby is not only a skilled racing driver but also a great ambassador for his team and the championship.
“We believe that forming a partnership will provide benefits to both Bobby and Hampson Haulage and we look forward to being part of his ongoing development and progression. He is an up and coming driver and a star of the future and the fact that he and his family have always worked very closely during his career make him a natural fit for our family business.”
