Home race for Manuel Gião and Lourenço Beirão

One of Portugal’s finest motorsport circuits, Estoril, will entertain the second round of the 2015 SEAT Leon Eurocup this weekend. After an exciting opening event of the campaign in France (Paul Ricard), the European tour continues with Portugal next on the schedule and where the SEAT Leon Cup Racer will dish out another dose of excitement and thrills for fans already plotting their visit to the renowned Portuguese venue.

At Estoril, 32 drivers from 15 nationalities will compete in the two races across the weekend to strengthen their case for the 2015 championship. Each competitor will be looking to extract every once of performance of their SEAT Leon Cup Racer in the run to the best set of results in this prestigious contest and across the layout situated in the rocky setting of Estoril. The track is 4.360km in length and is formed from nine right hand curves and four left turns and consists of several sharp uphill and downhill sections that help bring a special flavour to the facility that was built in 1972. Its location close to the Atlantic means that the drivers could find a range of weather conditions in store, above all they’ll have to cope with strong winds that are typical of the area.

In Portugal, Spaniard Mikel Azcona (PCR Sport) arrives as leader of the series after the two first races of the season on the French course of Paul Ricard. Close in the table are countrymen Fran Rueda (Monlau Competición) and Pol Rosell (Baporo Motorsport) in second and third positions and three and four points away from the top spot respectively. Local fans will be focused on the efforts of Manuel Gião (Baporo Motorsport), who was runner-up in the 2014 SEAT Leon Eurocup. Gião is highly motivated for his home round after a complicated weekend on the French asphalt. The Portuguese boasts two victories and three podiums on his ‘resume’ and is now hoping to add to the tally while also bagging his first points on Saturday and Sunday. Also under the spotlight will be Lourenço Beirão, who was unfortunately unable to finish either race at Paul Ricard.

Taking into account the Ladies Trophy then Lucile Cypriano is the pace-setter in the new division after taking a point in the French fixture. The nineteen year old rookie has shown some rare and innate talent and is hoping for more rewards for her efforts and development demonstrated so far in Paul Ricard, where she classified eighth in her first race.

"After the success of Paul Ricard we now head onto Portugal where the SEAT Leon Eurocup arrives with more momentum than ever,” comments Jaime Puig, SEAT Sport Director. “Estoril, the home of Manuel Gião and Lourenço Beirão, is a circuit where a prediction can be difficult both in terms of the sport and the weather. What is clear is that neither will budge and this adds a lot of excitement to the championship. Something else worth mentioning is that we’ve thought out various themed ‘zones’ that will suit the whole family. The SEAT Leon Eurocup is pure adrenaline…but it is also a fun space where you can really absorb the full experience.”
