GP3 series kicks off with a podium for Trident, team report

The 2015 GP3 Series season kicked-off in the best possible way for Trident and Luca Ghiotto, as the Italian cruised to a deserved pole position and to a positive second place in Saturday's Feature Race. The opening race of the year was conditioned by an early contact with another car for Artur Janosz, who ended up 16th, while Oscar Tunjo, who had qualified in 8th, made it to the finish in P17 in a tough race to manage due to the quick tire wear.

27 - LUCA GHIOTTO

In qualifying, Ghiotto delivered a perfect run that enabled him to grab the pole and head the pack at the start. As the lights went off, the Italian had a small hesitation that cost him the leadership. However, he was able to find a good race pace straight away and crossed the line in P2. The pole and race results allowed Ghiotto, who is representing ACI Team Italia, to collect valuable points for the championship. He now stands in second place.

26 - ARTUR JANOSZ

Artur lined-up on the 17th place on the grid and was off to a really good start. Immediately thereafter though, he was involved in a contact that forced him to make it back to the pits for a front nose change. Once back on-track, the Pole recovered up to the 16th position but, unfortunately, ran out of time when further improvements were in his frame.

28 - OSCAR TUNJO

Colombian Tunjo, who had scored great laptimes in preseason testing at Barcelona and in yesterday's practice, completed Race 1 with a result that clearly doesn't reflect his potential. Today's race has been a particularly tough one in terms of managing the Pirelli tires, which suffered a quick drop off from as early as lap 10. That cost Oscar several positions especially during the closing part of the race, forcing him to settle for 17th.
