The British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Drew Furlong as Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the BARC Group.
Furlong will oversee the operations and forward planning for the BARC’s venues, championships and events, as well as its valued marshals and members.
The role involves overseeing the overall direction of the Group’s motor racing and hill climb venues – Thruxton, Croft, Pembrey, Gurston Down and Harewood. Similarly Furlong will oversee the Club’s association with more than 30 championships and series, which includes the biggest motor sport series in the UK.
The BARC is also responsible for organising some of the highest level International race meetings in Europe, something Furlong has more than two decades of experience working in, and it is anticipated he will continue to build and develop the Group’s worldwide reputation for race meeting organisation and promotion.
Furlong takes up his new position after 22 years at the BRSCC, most recently in the role of Competitions Director. The 48-year-old will start at the BARC later this summer, where he will be based at the Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire.
Drew Furlong, BARC Chief Operating Officer, said: "I am absolutely delighted to take up this new role at the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC). I would like to thank the BRSCC for my time there, and now I am immensely looking forward to and honoured to be taking up this new challenge. While my experience of running major motor sport events, including several World Championships, will be important, this is a strategic position overseeing the future success of the BARC Group as a whole."
Tony Scott-Andrews, BARC Chairman, added: "We are pleased to welcome Drew Furlong to this new post within the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC). His appointment is part of our continued efforts to evolve and develop the Group further as we continue building into its second century of operation. Drew is hugely experienced and has the wealth of knowledge and skills required to perform an integral role in ensuring that the BARC remains at the forefront of British and global motor sport."
