Two races, two different winners in Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS in Spa for the fourth round of the season. On the circuit in the Ardennes Jake Hughes (Koiranen GP) seized his first win in the Series in Race 1 while Matevos Isaakyan took the Race 2 win.
An error-free race by the Russian who slipped by his team-mate, pole setter Thiago Vivacqua, in the early stages. The Brazilian had to settle for P2 defending his place from a determined Hughes. Once more fourth place for the Championship leader Jack Aitken who will still lead the standings but now with only a seven points margin over his team-mate Hughes.
An interesting duel for P5 taken at the end by the Russian Vasily Romanov (Cram Motorsport) who had to look out for the two Koiranen GP drivers, Philip Hamprecht and Stefan Riener. Hamprecht crossed the finish lin in P6 while Riener crashed with Danylo Pronenko at the end of the Kemmel straight. The crash, also involving James Allen (Arta Engineering) forced all three drivers to retire and called in the Safety Car. Due to this contact Pronenko will have a five place penalty on the Race 1 grid of the upcoming event.
Seventh overall was the debuting wild card Alessio Lorandi, who had to park his car in race 1 on the formation lap. The top ten is completed by Travis Jordan Fischer (Cram Motorsport), Bruno Baptista (Koiranen GP) and Daniele Cazzaniga (GSK Grand Prix).
“I’ve managed to do a promising start but still I haven’t managed to pass Thiago - said Isaakyan - After few turns I realized my pace was better and i took the lead. I’ve managed to open a gap and just cruised to victory without risking too much. When the Safety Car rejoined the pit only two laps were left. I did my best and I took the flag”.
Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS will be back on track for its fifth 2015 venue in Monza on the upcoming weekend of the 4/5 July.
The Championship (top 5): 1. Aitken 149; 2. Hughes 142; 3. Isaakyan 129; 4. Riener 109; 5. Vivacqua 101
