GREAT Britain will move into Thursday’s World Cup Race-Off in Denmark after being pipped by Australia in a tense opening clash at King’s Lynn.Boss Alun Rossiter admitted he could have asked for no more from his riders, who went into the last set of four races just one point behind before Australia eventually prevailed by a four-point margin.Skipper Tai Woffinden and Chris Harris both scored 13 for the Lions with Danny King adding ten and youngster Robert Lambert a creditable seven.Boss Alun Rossiter said: “I’ve got no complaints whatsoever. We were beaten by the better side but we certainly gave it our best shot, and we just fell short at the line.“Robert has done himself proud for a 17-year-old kid, how many 17-year-olds have done that? It was a great all-round effort from the boys, and hopefully now we’ve got something to build on.“We’re not going to Vojens just to make the numbers up, we’re going there to win. We’re taking the same five riders, including Kyle Howarth, and you’ve got to give these boys the experience. “Kyle will learn a lot from this, and we’ll look at practice and see how they all go, and then I’ll make a decision after that.”

STOKE gained a second win in two days with success at Kent on Monday to move off the bottom of the National League table. The Potters triumphed 47-42 at Central Park having led for much of a close contest before the home side took the lead with a 5-1 in Heat 12 only for the visitors to hit back in the next race through Jon Armstrong and Lee Payne. The same pairing then secured the victory in the last race after the Kings’ Aaron Baseby had been disqualified.Potters boss Malcolm Vasey said: “I’m absolutely delighted for the team and supporters. This was a brilliant victory and both Lee and Jon were awesome for us in Heats 13 and 15 as they gained maximum heat wins in both races. “It was a team effort from the start, the team ethic is team effort and this was proven tonight as everyone rode hard for every point. It’s been a great weekend for us on the track with two wins in successive days and we are now off the bottom of the table and are on the up.”
