Gibson Teams Claim Podium at Le Mans 2nd and 3rd Place in LMP2

British company Gibson Technology again achieved another top three finish in the world’s most famous endurance race, the Le Mans 24 hours.

The Jota Sport team returned to defend their 2014 LMP2 title and achieved an amazing 2nd place, despite an early technical issue forcing them to the back of the field. Nothing was to stop the driver trio of Simon Dolan, Oliver Turvey and Mitch Evans from pushing the Gibson to the limit and fighting their way back up the field, finally finishing the gruelling 24 hour race a mere 48.182 seconds behind the winning LMP2 car. The pace of the Gibson 015S-Nissan was underlined by Oliver Turvey setting the fastest LMP2 lap time during the later stages of the race.

‘What an amazing result for the Jota team, congratulations to everyone involved’ said James Hibbert, Gibson’s Sportscar Manager. ‘A great effort to work from the back to 2nd, well done.’

To add to Gibson’s success, third and fourth places in the LMP2 class were taken by the G Drive Team, powered by the Gibson-Nissan engines.

A further four Gibson-Nissan engine cars competed in the world’s toughest endurance race and finished 6th (SMP), 9th (Pegasus), Oak (11th), 13th (SMP), in a 19 car strong LMP2 field.

Unfortunately Greaves Motorsport’s Gibson 015S was forced to retire with electrical issues around the 6 hour mark and the Gibson-Nissan engine Strakka-Dome retired with a gearbox problem with less than 6 hours to go.

‘We look forward to the next challenge on 12th July at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, where our teams will compete in the European Le Mans Series’ said John Manchester, Gibson’s Operations Director. ‘We would like to thank our workforce at Repton, all our suppliers and teams for a great collective effort.
