Motors TV Weekend Highlights 20,21 June

Geographical location would dictate a stupid-o’clock alarm call for live V8 Supercars coverage, which is why we’re showing all three races from Hidden Valley delayed at a more leisurely hour this Saturday and Sunday. It’s all to play for at round five with Ford’s Mark Winterbottom and Holden’s Craig Lowndes separated by just 12 points at the top of the standings, while the likes of Fabian Coulthard and serial title-winner Jamie Whincup aren’t too far away either.

Fortunately the French time zone poses less of an inconvenience, hence our live coverage from round three of this season’s  Blancpain Endurance Series at Paul Ricard. The first six-hour/1000km race of the campaign runs into darkness, giving teams and drivers an opportunity to brush up on their nocturnal skills before Spa’s blue riband event in a month’s time. The dynamic Audi trio of Laurens Vanthoor – fresh from his Le Mans exploits – Robin Frijns and Jean-Karl Vernay will again provide the Pro Cup benchmark after first and second places in the opening two encounters, while Von Ryan Racing’s McLaren should also be in contention after its breakthrough victory at Silverstone last time out.

Le Castellet also plays host to the Lamborghini Super Trofeo this weekend, so it’s only right and proper that we have coverage from both races on a live and delayed basis. Featuring a grid stuffed full of Gallardos and all-new Huracans, it’s considered by everyone but Porsche to be the fastest one-make series in the world.

From a category largely populated by gentlemen to one wholly comprising young whippersnappers: yes, it’s the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. This week’s school excursion sees teams and drivers visit the Ardennes for what’s unlikely to feature anything on the Battle of the Bulge. Instead, Head Boy Antonio Giovinazzi will be eager to defend his House (and points advantage) from Charles Leclerc and Felix Rosenqvist, both of whom are in striking distance of the Italian. We’ll have all three races live from Spa across both days.

The world’s newest tin-top series will also grace our schedules this Sunday when the TCR International Series visits Sochi Autodrom for round seven of its globetrotting campaign. Gianni Morbidelli and Stefano Comini lead the way as the season enters its second half, but what price a strong showing from home hero Sergey Afanasyev at the grandioso F1 venue?

Motors TV Weekend Highlights wouldn’t be complete without the all-but obligatory FIM MXGP World Championship round, and fortunately for this edition that’s exactly what we’ve got. Mullets, beer and other lazy stereotypes are bound to be out in force at Teutschenthal where the home crowd will be cheering on MXGP points leader Max Nagl who continues to frustrate Tony Cairoli’s bid for a seventh straight premier class crown. There’s no such jeopardy in MX2, though, where champion elect Jeffery Herlings might as well take the rest of the year off.

And if all of that wasn’t enough we’ll also have the best-of action from VW Racing Cup’s recent visit to Silverstone. Golfs, Sciroccos, Beetles, oh my.
