Third round of the Porsche Supercup at Red Bull Ring, AustriaPositive test days at Monza in preparation for next race
It has been nearly four weeks since the last Supercup meeting at the famous Grand Prix of Monaco. However, there has beenno break for the young Australian racing driver Spike Goddard. He has been busy preparing for the third Supercup race, scheduled for the Red Bull Ring at Spielberg (Austria) this coming weekend.
Spike, who is currently in seventh place (out of 13) in the Rookie Driver Standing, has been consistently improving over the past few months since debuting in this very competitive championship. Most recently, he showed his improving pace at the official two-day test at the Autodrome Nazionale Monza by setting the seventh fastest time in the final session on the second day. “Considering how much experience the other drivers in the field have, I am happy with the job I have done so far since it is my Rookie season”, reflects the young Australian.
“I was really pleased with my performance in the two test-days we had in Monza and on the second day I managed to get a very good run in the afternoon session”, said the 22-year-old. “I think I am getting much better at how the car handles, especially how to take advantage of the new tyres.”
Spike is now taking this positive result to the next Porsche Supercup meeting, which is taking place at the picturesque Red Bull Ring in Austria next weekend. “I raced there before in Formula 3 and therefore I know thetrack layout very well”, says Spike. “But it is going to be different racing in a Porsche and I will have to adjust to that change quickly”.
“The most important parts of the track are the exits out of Turns 1 and 2, because they both lead onto long straights and you need to make sure that you get a good exit out of these two corners.”
In addition to testing at Monza, Spike has also been busy training in the simulator to prepare for the all-important race meeting. “I am really looking forward to race at the Red Bull Ring again, because it is a great track and it should be a good race for the MRS Team.”
